The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends all children see a pediatric dentist by age one. Dr. Kurt encourages early intervention through professional dental check-ups. From toddlers to teens, a visit with Dr. Kurt will give you something to smile about. A thorough dental cleaning and examination of your child’s teeth will be performed during each check-up visit. Digital radiographs can be taken to increase diagnostic ability and greatly reduce radiation exposure. Radiographs give a clear picture of how your child’s teeth are growing. Dental check-ups are crucial to spotting problems early and promote a life-time of healthy, straight teeth.
While regular checkups and professional cleanings are important in keeping smiles healthy and locating trouble areas, establishing a daily home care routine is even more valuable. Wasatch Pediatric Dentistry will help you start on the right path to healthy and life-long oral habits for your children. Establishing healthy dental habits early in a child’s life can prevent future problems like cavities or even more serious problems. Teaching a child how to properly brush and floss now will save time, money, and tears in the future. It is worth the fight! Help your kiddos get over that fear of the dentist by bringing them in early and often. Set them up for success and a lifetime of healthy smiles!
After digital radiographs are taken during the check-up Dr. Kurt can see clearly any problems or trouble areas with your child’s teeth. Restorative dentistry is the step of treatment of any damage or diseases of the teeth in order to restore them to original health or prevent any further damage. Restorative dentistry treatments come can include filling cavities, placing crowns or spacers, and extracting or removing teeth. Restorative treatment visits can be expected to take a little longer than regular check-ups. They can also be stressful or scary for some children. Dr. Kurt and his staff specialize in providing gentle restorative dentistry and uses every advancement necessary to ensure your child is comfortable and taken care of.
Sedation has been used in dentistry in various forms for some time. Whether is it local anesthesia to decrease pain or discomfort or rendering the patient unconscious for the duration of the procedure. Sedation dentistry can is an important part of pediatric dentistry because children can be squirmy, nervous or anxious - or even down right scared. Should your child need dental treatment, there are many options that we offer to provide the best possible pediatric care for your child.
Options include:
1. Local Anesthesia - This is always the simplest option. It involves injecting a numbing medication around the area to be treated. This is often combined with nitrous oxide.
2. Nitrous Oxide - Also known as “laughing gas,” this can be a supplement to a local anesthetic. Since the patient remembers most of the procedure, it does not work well for children who are dental phobic or cannot sit still through dental treatment. This process is best used to reduce minor anxiety.
3. Oral Sedation - This can be a great option for a moderately nervous child when the planned treatment is expected to last a little longer. The child is given a syrup to drink which has a sedative effect to relax patients for the procedure. The medication often takes 20 minutes to work, so parents will need to take an active role in administering it to the child.
4. General Anesthesia - When children need a lot of dental treatment, or their fear is too great to accomplish treatment in the dental chair, general anesthesia is a comfortable and safe option. This level of care can be rendered with the help of an anesthesiologist.
Dr. Kurt often sees children after trip-and-fall accidents, sports injuries, or sudden and painful toothaches. It’s important to remember that if your child has any serious cuts or other bodily injuries as the result of an accident, visit the emergency room first. After primary health and well-being is looked after, Wasatch Pediatric Dentistry will step in and provide quality dental care to restore a comfortable smile.
